My Bad

Oct 11, 2011
I've been neglecting you of late, and I'm sorry.  I have no good excuses.  Well, maybe I do.

My not so good excuses:

1) I am in the midsts of planning my sister's baby shower.  (It's a girl!!!  So excited)

2) I am constantly searching pinterest looking for ideas for said shower that I can steal pretend I made up use.

3) I started a new job yesterday, and trying to make sure I had everything in order before I started has been a small chore. No really it was just a small chore.

4) I've been reading again.  I've told you what happens when I start reading.

5) Things have been a little quiet in the boy department.  Maybe I can find excuses for that too....

6) I ran out of Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies....for a day...then I found some in the freezer.

7) It has been Really REALLY nice outside.  We're talking 80 degrees!  For Ohio in october that's amazing. So yeah, I've been outside a lot.  Even got a mini burn.  :)

8) I keep getting sidetracked by Facebook the 7 million other things I need to do online.

9) Steve Jobs died.  It is sad.  And so I couldn't write because....I'm still working on why that is a valid excuse.

10) I blame plain ol' writers block.  There I said it.

The last week or so has been busy and yet dull all at the same time.  I figure why would you want to read about someone else's normal day.  Unless maybe you have a had a crazy day!  Ooo Ooo tell me about your crazy day!

Grrrrrrr....the silly things that annoy me

Oct 6, 2011
I got a magazine in the mail yesterday, and while I love getting them in the mail there is a part I don't like....the little cards that are stuck inside to send in for a subscription.  Hello! I already have a subscription why do I need 5 million cards.  Can I get a witness? ......chirp....chirp.....maybe it's just me.  Here are some other things that drive me a little batty.

  • Time left on the microwave

  • A collection of DVD's scattered around the TV

  • Security stickers left on the case of a DVD or CD after it's been opened (have been to a friends house and took all those stickers off)

  • I tend to be late at times, but I HATE being late for a wedding.

  • Not getting a phone call or email by the time a person says they will call or email. I'm pretty sure I'm guilty of this as well. oops.

  • The grocery carts that have a mind of their own

  • The use of double negatives in a sentence

  • The use of double comparisons (more better)

  • People that drive 10mph or more under the speed limit

  • Getting an email that obviously hasn't been proofed

  • Slow internet/computers....I have no patience when it comes to this one

Those are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head.  I'm sure there are more. Do we share some of the same annoyances?  Add one to the list.

I claim the whole month

Oct 3, 2011
So last month I celebrated my birthday.  I say month because I really do celebrate the whole month!  I still enjoy celebrating my birthday, and I feel that one day just isn't enough time to fully experience this special day.  One year it just kinda worked out that my birthday celebrations were spread out over 2 1/2 weeks...lightbulb!  If it works for a couple of weeks, why not the whole month!!  And there was the beginning of the month long birthday.   So how do you get started??

I signed up with some awesome companies that give out free items to help me celebrate.

Totally free mini make-up!  Last year was the best with an eye shadow, eye liner pencil and mini mascara.  Go to their website and at the top of the page you will see Sign up for Sephora.  Join the club and for your birthday you'll receive an email on how to get your prize!

I didn't even realize I signed up for this one, but it pays to sign up with stores when they ask for your info.  Because I got this in the mail:

SCORE!!  Got to love getting "money" in the mail.

My most recent sign up this magical card...

Free burger during my birthday month and you also get a free appetizer reward when you sign up for the card.  Yummm!

I also know Menards does something for birthdays.  My dad has gotten gifts, maybe because he has a store card with them???

The last big free gift I get is from Swagbucks.  They send me $50...of course it is virtual, but I am saving up for a wii or something awesome like that.  Email me at menmoneyandme@gmail.com and I'll send you an invite.

There you have it...the first step to making your birthday last the whole month.

Happy birthday!  :)

September reading list

Sep 30, 2011
Hi. My name is Jenny. (Hi Jenny) I am a book-aholic. I love to read!  Escaping to a different world does my heart good.  I am one of those people that will sit up to 2, 3 or 4 in the morning reading.  When I was in school I wouldn't let myself read non-textbook books, since I knew I would easily put school on the back burner.  Yes, I am that person.

This month I borrowed a few books from a friend and really enjoyed all of them.  Here was my September reading list:

Story about a man named Jacob, who finds himself joining the circus after his parents die.  Things seem to be going well for him, until he begins to fall in love with Marlena the enchanting equestrian performer.  This is a problem since she is married.
The author, Sara Gruen, tells the story going back and forth between his past at the circus and where he finds himself in the present at a nursing home.  The character Jacob has a lot of fight in him for being ninety something and therefore makes the portions about his present just as interesting to read as his past.
The book was an easy read that I found hard to put down.  There are a few raunchy parts, but overall pretty clean.

Set in France, this story also jumps between the past and present.  The past being 1942, the middle of WWII.  Sarah's family is Jewish and we join them on the very night the French police come to their house to take them away.  Sarah's 4year old brother hides from the police in their favorite hiding place, a cabinet with a hidden lock.  Sarah pockets the key, promising to return shortly for her brother.  We jump 60 years later, to the the anniversary of this Jewish round-up called the Vel d’Hiv.  Julia is an American journalist living in Paris who is assigned to tell the story of this tragic event.  During her research she discovers that her husband's grandparents moved into the apartment that Sarah and her family were taken from.  Julia begins to uncover family secrets that stir up a wide range of emotions.
Be prepared to cry.  This book takes the reader on an emotional journey with both Sarah and Julia. Another book that was hard to put down.

What if imaginary friends, weren't imaginary?  What if they are only seen by the people that need them?  Cecelia Ahern explores the world of the imaginary friend, Ivan.  We meet up with Ivan as he is leaving his latest best friend and on the lookout for his new best friend.  When he finds Luke, Ivan is soon captivated by the boy's aunt Elizabeth.  She can't see him of course, at least not at first.  This is a new experience for Ivan that an adult can see him!  He helps Elizabeth see what she is missing in life and how to fill the voids with the people that love her.
A well written book that asks the reader to remember what it was like to imagine and pretend.  Ahhhh....good book.

This book will make you: cry, want to throw up and yell.  This is the true story of a little boy growing up in the 70's in California, who was horrifically mentally and physically abused by his mother.  I can't even begin to tell you all the terrible things that he went through.  Absolutely terrible. With help from teachers, the school nurse and the principal, David was finally able to be free from the abusive environment.  This book will inspire you to keep going through the tough times, and to love on kids.  It taught me to remember that even if the parents seem to have it together or are important people in the community, doesn't mean they aren't capable of abuse their children
Every educator and parent should read this book.  It's not very long; I finished it in an afternoon.  Definitely had to take a break from the intensity every once in a while though.

So there are the books I have read in the last couple of weeks.  Go to the library and pick one of these up.  You won't be sorry.  I promise.

Quote of the week

Sep 28, 2011
Not sure if you've noticed, but I added a little "Quote of the week" section thing on the side bar. Right there------>

These are little things that I have found on Pinterest (thanks again Lazy Mom for getting me hooked on that one) that I want to share with all of you.

This week's quote was picked for two reasons.

First: This past Sunday I participated (next year I am totally running) in the Race for the Cure.  So the whole pink thing made me think of the Race and the fight against breast cancer.

Second: It is a great reminder to all the girls out there that may be in a relationship where they aren't being treated right, that they deserve better.  It makes me sad hearing stories from friends about ladies they know that are in some sort of abusive relationship.

If that is you, get out NOW!!!  You. deserve. better.  Personally I would rather not be in a relationship at all than be in one where I am not being treated right.

For all those guys out there that ARE treating girls right, kuddos to you.  Keep it up.  And make sure that you, too, are being treated with the respect that you deserve as a person.

If you know someone in a crappy relationship, speak up.  Get them the help they need.
Kind of a random post, but for some reason I felt it needed to be said.
